Key takeaways

How do you use ChatGPT and Jasper to research a client’s pain points?

Paste your ideal client avatar into the chat, tell the AI you want to brainstorm about that avatar specifically, then ask it directly for the avatar’s pain points and frustrations. Run the same avatar through more than one AI tool to compare results, then keep only the pain points that actually resonate with your business.

What is this exercise part of?

This video is day three of a 7-Day AI Content Creation Challenge led by Kelly Tenny. Day two of the challenge used ChatGPT to generate an ideal client niche and avatar; day three builds on that work by using ChatGPT and Jasper to research the avatar’s pain points and frustrations. Day four of the challenge then uses these pain points to start creating content.

How do you set up the brainstorming prompt?

  1. Open with the avatar you created the previous day. In the video, Kelly’s avatar is “Sarah,” an entrepreneur and small business owner who wants to develop micro courses to improve her customer journey, automation, and revenue.
  2. Tell the AI you want to brainstorm about this specific avatar, and paste in the avatar description so the tool has context.
  3. Ask a direct prompt such as “brainstorm some of Sarah’s current pain points.”
  4. Follow up with a narrower prompt such as “please consider what frustrations Sarah feels” to get more specific, emotionally-grounded answers beyond the first list.
  5. Repeat the same avatar and prompts in a second AI tool (the video uses Jasper) to compare results.

Why compare results across ChatGPT and Jasper?

According to the video, running the same avatar through both tools produces overlapping results but also surfaces different angles. In the video’s example, Jasper raised points about creating cohesive brand images and access to networking and professional development that ChatGPT’s output didn’t emphasize. Not every point applies — the video stresses picking out only the pain points that genuinely resonate with your own client base and setting aside the ones that don’t.

What should you do with the pain points once you have them?

Move the pain points that apply to your business into a separate document rather than leaving them inside the chat history. The video notes this is for safekeeping, since a platform can go down or a chat can disappear. These saved pain points then become the input for the next day’s task: creating content that converts and resonates with the ideal client.

Hi everybody. Welcome to day three of the 7-Day AI Content Creation Challenge. Kelly Tenny here, and today we are going to be powering up our client research by using AI tools like Jasper and ChatGPT. The task today is to take our ideal client information and the niche that we brainstormed and came up with yesterday, and we’re going to be doing some research around pain points and frustrations and challenges that this ideal client may have, which we will then in turn take tomorrow and start creating some content.

So today we’re really going to use ChatGPT and Jasper as a brainstorming partner. I know one of the biggest challenges that I have, which many of you may resonate with, is as a business owner we’re spinning all of the plates, right — our days are back to back, maybe we’re creating emails, we’re getting on sales calls, we’re running workshops, we’re doing one-on-one calls, right, we’re doing all of those things. And so when it comes down to me really being able to tap into my ideal client to determine what kind of content I want to create — whether that content is in an email, a blog, social media post, a video reel — sometimes I have a really hard time coming up with that creative idea. I tend to come up with a lot of the same things over and over again, and when I think, “God, I’d love to create a post that’s just not the same, create a micro course,” I have a difficult time figuring out where to come from. And so this is why I love this type of task, because ChatGPT and Jasper can be really useful when it comes to brainstorming and just coming up with different perspectives, new ideas, and so forth.

So we’re going to start in here today with ChatGPT, and we’re gonna go right back to that same content that we have been working with yesterday. Yesterday we used ChatGPT to help us create our niche and our ideal client avatar. You guys might remember from day two that for me it created four different avatars — oh, five different avatars — and these top two were really the ones that resonated with me the most. Now if you have more than one avatar, you can run this task and duplicate it again and again. For me, I’m really going to stick with Sarah. Sarah truly is my ideal client — she’s an entrepreneur, she’s a small business owner, she wants to develop micro courses to help her improve her customer journey, automation techniques, increase her revenue, and grow her business. And the educator in me always says that the best thing to do this is around education, right — it takes education to move your clients from one step to the other.

So I’m going to go down here, and what I’ve done is I’ve asked ChatGPT to brainstorm, and I first just started off by making sure that ChatGPT knew that we were right now talking about this one avatar. So I typed in here, “I want to do some brainstorming about this avatar,” I cut and pasted about Sarah. ChatGPT said, “Let’s get started, what specific areas of Sarah’s entrepreneurship are you interested in,” and it already started giving me some ideas — we could explore different directions, right, developing micro courses, creating a marketing strategy, expanding product lines, identifying ways to differentiate the business from competitors, and so forth.

I’m going to tell ChatGPT, “I want to brainstorm some of Sarah’s current pain points,” okay, and so now it’s given me a handful of pain points. Of course we always want to check in and make sure — is it giving us the right output, is it producing garbage, do we need to start over? She’s struggling to attract new customers and retain existing ones, she’s feeling overwhelmed and overworked, finding it difficult to differentiate the business from competitors, lack of expertise in the customer journey, limited resources, difficulty staying up to date with the latest industry trends, an ability to scale the business while maintaining quality and customer experience, difficulty creating engaging and effective educational content, and needing to improve efficiency and productivity to free up time for growth and development. So that’s pretty spot-on with what I see in a lot of the clients that I work with.

I’m just going to get a little bit more detail here, and I’m going to ask ChatGPT to “please consider what frustrations Sarah feels.” Okay, so now it’s given me a little bit more pain points, but this one is specifically around frustrations. So when we think about pain points, right, we think about challenges, frustrations, maybe things that are angering Sarah, things that are causing her to feel burnout. And by typing in some of these more prompt questions, we’re really going to be able to get some more specific answers that obviously all fall under pain points but give us different insight: frustrated feeling like her business is being left behind as she struggles to keep up, feeling like her business is not different enough from competitors, frustrated with the amount of time and resources she needs to invest in marketing and customer acquisition without seeing the desired results.

So I could keep going here — I could ask about challenges, I could ask about what tasks in Sarah’s life might be causing her burnout, all of the things that we know kind of fall under that pain point category. I’m going to stop here for a minute though, and I just want to take Sarah’s avatar and compare and do the same thing in Jasper Chat. Okay, and I do this a lot — I like to go back and forth and just see how they compare. So I’m going to put Sarah’s avatar in here and I’m gonna ask Jasper, “please help me pain points this avatar.” Okay, now you may have noticed — today, super exciting announcement, came out yesterday actually, around Brand Voice — so if I was creating actual content, I could actually apply it to this chat, but right now I’m just doing some brainstorming, and I just want to show you how you can use these together in combination, or you can use either tool.

Again, very similar results: struggling to attract new clients, finding it difficult to retain existing customers, limited knowledge of customer journey automation techniques, lack of expertise in AI to improve her customer journey. And I’m just going to ask it again — can you brainstorm some frustrations? Okay, so it just gave us some more specific frustrations. If we look at some of these, they’re actually different, right — this one talks about creating cohesive brand images, limited access to networking, professional development, obviously as a course creator. Some of these I would take, put into a document, to keep. Others I would think, “these don’t pertain to me” — I don’t help with access to networking, so that would not apply to me as an online course creator. Struggling to increase her brand’s visibility — that one would apply. Difficulty developing a consistent, effective content strategy — that could apply. Not understanding the most effective ways to target her ideal customers — so a lot of these are a little bit more spot-on, and it’s always good to experiment, right — what we said is just keep trying. Maybe I’m going to now say, “what are her challenges,” maybe I’m going to say, “what are the things that are burning her out,” and so we can keep asking these questions and partnering with Jasper just like you would a partner, right — if you were to sit down at lunch and be like, “hey, I need some help brainstorming,” just go back and forth and have those conversations with either Jasper or ChatGPT.

I like some of the things that Jasper came up with, I also like some of the results that ChatGPT came up with. So in a separate document, what I would be doing is I would be moving the ones that apply to me and that resonate with me into that document, so that I have them together in one place — I’m not jumping back and forth between different platforms — and I can come in and use this with our day four task. So again, have fun, get into either ChatGPT, Jasper Chat, or both. I always say once you see the results that you have, move them into a separate document just for safekeeping. I have learned the hard way that you never know if you’re going to wake up and a platform’s going to be down or things are going to disappear.

But we are going to be using these pain points tomorrow, on day four, when we start creating content. Okay, so again, today, day three, was all about conducting AI-powered research. Your task is to run some similar conversations with ChatGPT and/or Jasper Chat, using the ideal client avatar and the niche that you created yesterday, and to come up with a list of pain points that will give you a deeper understanding of your client. When you have found some of those pain points, post them in the chat, share your results with us — I would love to see what you’re up to, give you feedback, it’s great for accountability — but post those pain points, at least one or two of them, maybe the one that you found where you were like, “oh, I never thought about that, that one never crossed my mind.” Share those with us, have fun brainstorming some of these pain points, and bring that content back tomorrow, because we are going to start creating some content that converts and resonates with your ideal client. Have fun everybody with your brainstorm, and I’ll see you back for day four.
