What is ChatGPT and how does it compare to Jasper?
ChatGPT is OpenAI’s direct chatbot interface into GPT-3, released shortly before this video was recorded. Jasper is also built on top of GPT-3, but trains and directs the model for specific content writing tasks. ChatGPT, by contrast, works more like an open sandbox where you can type any prompt and get a freeform response.
What did this first look at ChatGPT test?
The video runs through several live prompts to see how ChatGPT responds: ideas for a 10-year-old’s birthday, an explanation of Quantum Computing in simple terms, marketing ideas for selling a book to young adults, and finally the open-ended question “what’s the meaning of life.” Each prompt is entered directly into the ChatGPT interface to see how the chatbot conversation flows compared to a structured tool like Jasper.
Should you use ChatGPT instead of Jasper?
Based on this first look, ChatGPT is presented as a good way to experiment or save credits by going straight to GPT-3, but the video notes that Jasper is trained on top of GPT-3 in ways intended to make it superior for specific content writing tasks, rather than the general-purpose sandbox experience ChatGPT offers.

What’s going on y’all, Darby here with AI Author, and I’m going to be bringing to you today my first look at the OpenAI chatbot that I think just came out. A lot of people are talking about it — basically a direct chatbot into GPT-3 from OpenAI, and I hear the results are pretty cool.
If you’re familiar with Jasper, you should be aware that Jasper, and many, many of the AI-powered content writing tools, are plugged into GPT-3. Jasper trains the AI on top of GPT-3 in a whole bunch of ways, and I do think it is superior to just going directly to GPT-3. You can do a lot with it — it’s like a sandbox, like a playground where you can do all sorts of stuff and train it to do really specific tasks. That’s what we’re doing at Jasper.
But if you just want to go directly to GPT-3 and save yourself some credits, just play around with this — that could be a cool thing to do. Look at these examples right here: ideas for a 10-year-old’s birthday, Quantum Computing, explain Quantum Leap Computing in simple terms. So let’s give that an example.
This is GPT-3 giving me ideas — let me see, ideas for marketing a bestselling book to young adults, marketing ideas. So really just having a chatbot conversation here where you can basically ask OpenAI anything and take it from there. Kind of interesting to see — I’m going to go with dark mode on this — but yeah, it’s kind of a way to skim around some credits right now if you don’t want to go right into Jasper.
I’m just going to kind of compare and see how this does work in terms of the outputs. Obviously you’re going to be limited in a lot of senses in how much you’re able to do here, but let’s try — what’s the meaning of life? Let’s see what it says here. Not a bad answer.
