Key takeaways

What is MarketSauce Mentalist 2.0?

Mentalist 2.0 is a GPT built by Gen AI University’s MarketSauce method for generating buyer persona research. Starting from the release of the buyer brief book, it has become one of the more popular GPTs in the resource stack because it produces a detailed picture of a target audience directly from a short text description, rather than requiring a manual research process.

How do you generate a report with Mentalist GPT?

You generate a report by describing your product or service and audience in a simple input, then letting the GPT expand that into a full persona breakdown. In the video, the input is a made-up example: a subscription lawn-mowing company called “Grassco Services” targeting “millennial billionaires” with a proprietary VR grass cutter.

  1. Describe your product or service and who it targets in a few sentences.
  2. Optionally upload supporting files such as customer interviews, company information, or a content brief.
  3. Submit the input and let the GPT generate the report sections.
  4. Review the executive summary, target audience, archetype, emotional drivers, and desired benefits.
  5. Identify the main market segment and its sub-segments (in the demo: tech enthusiasts, luxury seekers, and environmentalists).
  6. Edit the original input and resubmit to refine the report toward a specific sub-segment or a different niche.

What sections does the report include?

The report opens with an executive summary and TL;DR that lets you scan the key points, then moves into the target audience and sub-segments. From there it covers the customer archetype, what they value, their emotional drivers, and the desired benefits they’re looking for from a product or service. Further sections go deeper into competitor analysis, a content brief, and what the target market is thinking and feeling, including positioning statements.

Can you have a conversation with the generated persona?

Yes. Once a report is generated, you can open a chat with that specific output and ask the GPT to act as the persona in conversation, such as describing a day in their life. The GPT uses the information already generated for that persona, for example a marketing manager named Sarah, to answer as that character. You can go back into the report to review who the persona is and adjust the prompt to refine the conversation, similar to working directly in ChatGPT or Claude. This lets you take the report’s content brief and use it to start engaging with that market.

Where does Mentalist GPT get its knowledge from?

Mentalist GPT specifically uses the buyer brief book as its knowledge point of reference, so it is meant to be used alongside that book and its instructions for building buyer personas. The video notes the tool is still in an early MVP stage, with plans to keep building out its capabilities, features, and integrations for MarketSauce, including deeper competitor analysis and content brief generation.

In this video I’m going to be sharing with you how you can start to use our newest addition to our AI resource stack, MarketSauce Method Mentalist 2.0. Our Mentalist GPT has been one of our more popular GPTs since the release of the buyer brief book, and incredibly helpful for gaining that clarity and understanding of your ideal target audience. You can speak directly to your market, and so that’s what we’re going to be doing here: generating with a simple input which you can expand and iterate on as you get more information.

You can upload files from things like customer interviews or specifics about your company and who you are — a content brief or something along those lines — but you can just get started by adding a little bit of information about your product or service. You say: we are Grassco Services, a subscription-based lawn mowing company who targets, I don’t know, like millennial billionaires. I’m just making this up on the spot. We are different because we have a proprietary VR grass cutter experience that is top secret and you have to pay a million dollars for it. Grassco Services is totally made up on the spot to illustrate how this will start to now generate the remaining contents of this report.

What you’ll see here in the different sections are going to be a number of things related to, or you may have seen if you’ve gone through the buyer’s brief book, but also other additions to buyer personas and things to look for in terms of informing your decision, as well as something that I’m really excited to see the response for. So let me know how you find this useful. After generating the report, breaking it down into the specific variables here for all of the key components, summarizing everything that we saw above with a TL;DR and giving you that ability to scan back up here and go through all the content: the executive summary, target audience, and sites. You can see as it’s going down, who we’re targeting, the archetype of a customer, what they value, their emotional drivers, what are the desired benefits that they’re looking for as it relates to your product or service, and then pinpointing down who’s the main market segment we’re focusing on here. In this case, based on what I put in, it’s going to be affluent millennial billionaires. Sub-segments, right: tech enthusiasts, luxury seekers, environmentalists. Again, you could focus on any number of these niches.

So if I went back and wanted to refine this and run it again for luxury seekers or tech enthusiasts, I would modify this prompt up here for my intake to then inform a different output, and continue to refine and use these outputs here again to assess and analyze, validate things that you were looking at or looking into. Also kind of competitor analysis, which again this is something that we’re going to continue to build on as we’re working through the capabilities and the features and the integrations for MarketSauce, to give a content brief related to that, and then going deeper into the mind of the market for what are they thinking, what are they feeling, positioning statements, going deeper and all of this stuff. So a lot of actionable content here, at least that’s the goal for each of these outputs. Sometimes AI does AI things and goes off track, and you need to refine and iterate or optimize the prompt and the input.

But then from here you essentially will have a targeted content brief, and that we are also capable of doing right now — it’s still in the early MVP stages — is seeing this output right here and being able to go in to open up a chat with this output particularly. So I can take the output and use that as the content brief for starting to engage with this market. I want you to act like the persona in a conversation, [tell me] about a day in your life, and so the GPT now is using information from the contents above to respond now to the information and the questions that you are asking, and asking it to go through — if this is Sarah, want to go back and look at who Sarah is: marketing manager, hiking — this is where we could add some additional refinements, this is where we could adjust and modify the prompt in here, much like you would inside of an interface with ChatGPT or Claude. But the key takeaway from getting started here is how fast you can get to this point, and then take this and implement the contents from in here, or expand on these contents by utilizing something like our more advanced GPTs that we produce at Gen AI University.

I wanted to just demonstrate that very quickly, how you can start to use — how you can simply go through, update and modify, and then hit submit and repopulate your output — and see how it’s going to be modifying contents to align with the type of customer that you are researching. So to highlight this point again, we’re generating that deep dive into the psychographics of a customer, and even identifying channels for outreach, optimizing offer, loyalty building, coming up with action plans. And now, this time it ran focusing the target market again, it’s taking some time to produce, and then here we go — even at the very end of the stage is generating those instructions to start to simulate a chat conversation, which again, repeating this process can reopen a thread and open up, engage with that conversation, and then simply just accessing all of your threads right now, anyways, inside of here in the app as it stands right now.

So, still early MVP, and just wanted to get this out to you so you could start to run with it. And then also there is the buyer brief — currently as we’re filming this demo with you — could also utilize this brief to interact and engage and go deeper based on the contents from the buyer brief book. So this GPT specifically has the buyer brief book as its knowledge point of reference, and you can use this in tandem with going through the book and the instructions and building out buyer personas from inside of this app.

So if you have any questions or any trouble or otherwise, feel free to reach out to us and let me know. But otherwise, hope you find this useful. And again, there are a limited number of free uses and runs for these reports, and if it’s something you find useful, then there’s just a monthly subscription to have unlimited access. Thanks for watching, and I hope to see you inside the app. Keep an eye out — we’ll see you in the next video.
