“Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”

What does “teach a man to fish” mean for The AI Author community?
Darby, founder of The AI Author, explains that the proverb captures the community’s mission: rather than doing content work for members, The AI Author teaches the skill of generative AI content creation so members can produce their own results indefinitely. In this video, that means learning how to use tools like Jasper and other AI-powered platforms to create better content faster without sacrificing quality.
What do you get inside The AI Author membership?
The video is a screen-share tour of the community, built on the Circle platform, showing the spaces available to members. According to the walkthrough, the main areas include:
- Auto Scripting course — described as the foundational course members should start with if they haven’t already, since it teaches the building blocks used throughout the community.
- Cookbook Plus — the community space where main events, challenges, workshops, boot camps, and interviews are hosted, along with a spot to introduce yourself and build a profile.
- Events calendar — hosts monthly live workshops (for example, a session with Kelly Tenney on creating micro courses with Jasper) and recurring events like the seven-day book challenge.
- Recipe Rockstar boot camp — a roughly three-hour workshop focused on building AI content workflows (“recipes”), with a way to submit custom recipe requests.
- Use Cases space — where new ways to use Jasper and community-contributed use cases are posted as tools like ChatGPT evolve.
- The Summit and Expert Interviews — recordings of the community’s flagship events and interviews with experts, often shared inside the community before they reach the public YouTube channel.
- Author Workflow Workshop — a course focused on publishing and book marketing workflows.
- Notification settings — lets members control how much email and app-push activity they receive as the community adds more content.
Is this video a tutorial or a community overview?
It’s a community overview, not a step-by-step tutorial. Darby walks through the Circle-based membership platform live, describing what each space contains and who it’s for, rather than teaching a specific AI technique. The video closes with an invitation to join The AI Author and a note that support requests go to hey@theaiauthor.com.

Hey, what’s up, Darby here, founder of The AI Author. What does that quote mean to you? What that quote means to me is that when you teach someone a skill, rather than just providing a service for someone, then the person learning that skill would eventually be able to feed themselves, feed their family, and other things. In the case of fish, in this case we’re talking about generative AI content and how to use Jasper, Copy Pro, and these other AI-powered tools to ultimately help you create better content faster without sacrificing quality. This is the most advanced training, education, and community to help you do exactly that.
You’re here as a member of The AI Author to learn, to grow, to get better, to develop your talents and skills that ultimately will pay the bills. Because of how AI is really shaping the future of writing and revolutionizing where writing is going, and how writers can use it to either enhance their IQ and enhance their production and output and work in a much more positive way, or — what I think is ultimately going to happen — people that aren’t using the tools correctly are actually going to lower their IQ.
In general, with how people go about using these tools, you can either approach it with pattern recognition — understanding different workflows, different outcomes, different rules and different principles, different levels of logic that you can use to get the better-quality outputs you really want from AI — versus just throwing stuff against the wall and hoping something sticks and letting the AI do all the work for you. At the end of the day, what we’re talking about here is a machine. The machine doesn’t have emotions, it’s a bunch of numbers, mathematics, it’s just formulating sentences, and often they sound really good. But the key is understanding how to produce things that are actually good, and understanding the difference between good, bad, and brilliant. That’s what you’ll learn here inside of The AI Author, because this community and this industry really is changing and evolving so fast and so rapidly. We’re really in the middle of a revolution with these tools, and business owners, entrepreneurs, everyone’s looking for ways they can integrate them into their systems. Here at The AI Author, you’re going to learn how to do just that.
So I’m going to share my screen now and walk you through exactly what you’re going to get inside the community, what you can expect, and ways that you can contribute yourself, plus ways you can work more closely with me if you’re looking to do that. Whenever you log in or subscribe to your membership, you’ll be taken to a page that gives you all the login details. You’ll have an opportunity to submit a custom recipe request, because we produce recipes on a regular basis, as well as a link to get you in.
Once you’re inside here, you have a few options — you might see a few extra ones — we call these spaces, inside of Circle, which is the app we’re using. These different spaces are going to be unlocked; not all of them are available right now, some are work in progress, but the key ones you’re going to be getting are: one, Auto Scripting — some of you might already have access to this if you bought the course as its own separate product. This audio scripting course is really fundamental, the foundation of where you’d want to start. If you haven’t gone through this course, I highly encourage you to go through it to really understand the building blocks we’re going to be using here.
Outside of the Auto Scripting course, we’ve got this Cookbook Plus section. This is the community where our events happen — our main events, our challenges, our workshops, our boot camps, and all of our interviews. Whenever you get logged in here, I highly encourage everyone to go ahead and introduce yourself, say a welcome, let people know you’re here. You can create your own profile inside of Circle if you don’t have one already, add some information about yourself. There are a lot of really quick people inside of this community — pioneers, forward thinkers, people really out there making a difference and learning how to use these tools far ahead of the curve. You can learn a lot from people inside of this community.
In the events calendar section is where we host these different workshops. As you can see here, at the time of this recording we’ve got our last workshop of the year in 2022 going on with Kelly Tenney on creating micro courses with Jasper — a very powerful way to educate and communicate your marketing and your content so people consume it and get the most value out of it. Really great workshop here, and every month we host new live events, new workshops, and sometimes we’ll go back through things like the seven-day book challenge, for example — probably do that once a quarter moving forward — so that people can really focus on getting their books out and then getting them marketed and launched to success.
That’s what you’ll find here — you have access to all of these recordings whether you can make them live or not. Here, for example, this was the recording from the event in the fall, a lot of great content inside there — this is basically a whole course you can go through at your own pace. If you’re interested in becoming an affiliate partner with us, you just go in here and read the details on that.
Now the Recipe Rockstar boot camp — if you’re interested in workflows and really creating your own recipes — is a great workshop, about three hours in total time, and all of those recordings are posted here. You can submit custom recipe requests just by going up here and submitting a recipe request, and there are a lot of recipes we may already have that you just aren’t aware of, so we can relay those to you or take them into consideration for one of our live workshops or community events. All of our recipes get updated here, and these links at the top bar are going to continue to be updated as we square things away, preparing for a strong 2023.
Use cases — this is where, as you find new things inside the community, new ways to use Jasper, new recipes, cases that I demo, this is where they’d be. Things like ChatGPT-3 coming out, different workshops, and other community members contributing their different use cases — a good place to learn different ways to use Jasper.
The Summit is one of our flagship events; all the recordings for the Summit can be found inside here, you can drop comments and questions, and we’ll be doing another Summit inside of 2023, so stay tuned for details on that — tons and tons of gold inside here.
Then Expert Interviews — we bring in experts on a regular basis to update people. In the past we’ve sometimes delivered stuff on our YouTube channel, but often you’ll find a lot of these interviews before they ever make it to our YouTube channel, inside this community — this being one of the spaces for them. A lot of gold in here as well, especially along the lines of publishing but also creating courses, sales in general.
If you’re into fiction, this is an event we did for NaNoWriMo, a full five sessions inside here using Jasper, and we’re turning this content into more bite-sized, actionable material along with a case study for the book. We’ll be adding more along the fiction lines, but most of the content inside this community right now is pretty non-fiction and business oriented, though we do have a lot of authors who write fiction as well, and as Jasper and AI have continued to grow and get better over time, we’re seeing a big uptake in people inside the community using it for fiction writing, so a lot more content is coming your way related to that, and to book marketing in general.
This is the Author Workflow Workshop, and here you can see a lot of different ways people can follow along on the course — this was a pretty recent course that just came out a few weeks ago. This is going to be the space where these events get hosted, and inside here you’re able to manage all of your notifications — for example, you’ve got access to all these spaces but you just want to manage how many emails and app pushes you’re getting — you can manage all of that here, controlling the flow of information as it comes out.
We really ramp things up, especially with the way things are going this year — there are going to be a lot of events happening, so we’re going to try to work with members on getting the right content, the right information, at the right time. We’re going to be doing a lot on making money with AI, using AI for different side hustles, using Jasper combined with a bunch of different tools inside here, and ultimately helping you succeed with that.
I’d really be excited to have you as part of our membership — this is a special invitation to you to join us and learn how to fish, so to speak, with Jasper and other AI tools, so that you can have this skill of Auto Scripting, of creating awesome content with AI that you can use to pay the bills, to invest in the things you wanted, to use the time you’re buying back because of this talent you developed, into more things that produce more freedom in your life, more joy, more happiness — and ultimately that’s what we’re all here for, I think, at the end of the day. That’s what this community is about: lifting each other up, and I’d love to have you become a part of that.
So in order to join us, just go ahead and scroll down, read the rest of the information below, and subscribe to the membership plan that works best for you. If you have any questions, go ahead and reach out to us at hey@theaiauthor.com — shoot us a message instead of a chat on this page, and we’ll get back to you as quickly as we can. Just keep in mind we are a small team, so we generally try to respond back to everyone within a 24-hour period; weekends tend to have a little bit longer of a delay because our team is off. Otherwise, would love to see you inside the community. Until then, keep calm and Jasper on.
