I Cloned Myself Using AI - Here's How You Can Too
Published October 27, 2023 · 209 views on YouTube
Key takeaways
- An AI clone is trained on your own content, tone of voice, and frameworks so it can respond the way you would to customers, community members, or team members.
- Coachvox setup involves uploading an avatar, defining your tone of voice, choosing how much it relies on your content versus general knowledge, and building a knowledge base of transcripts and documents.
- You can fine-tune responses after launch with a star-rating system, editing any reply you wouldn't personally give.
- Initial setup took a few hours to upload and organize content, with a few more hours of fine-tuning afterward.
What is an AI clone and how do you make one?
An AI clone is a trained version of yourself, built on a platform like Coachvox, that can chat with customers, generate leads, and answer questions using your own content, thinking, and communication style. You create one by feeding the platform your knowledge, frameworks, and tone of voice, then fine-tuning how it responds.
How does an AI clone actually respond to people?
The clone draws on the content and context it was trained on to hold a back-and-forth conversation, similar to how a human would coach someone through an idea. In the video’s demo, someone tells the AI clone they want to write a book about training miniature Australian Shepherds; the clone asks follow-up questions about the person’s experience and the specific problems they want to address, then helps shape that information into a book outline the person could take into a tool like ChatGPT or Claude to develop further.
What steps does the Coachvox setup process involve?
Coachvox uses what the video describes as a six-step process for building your clone. Based on the walkthrough, the main steps are:
- Upload an avatar image and give your clone a name and colors that define how it looks on your site.
- Check your dashboard to see how “client ready” your clone is; Coachvox also offers custom builds for authors and partners.
- Provide background information about yourself — who you are, your approach to helping people, and your tone of voice (for example: energetic, persuasive, enthusiastic, bold statements, metaphors, power words).
- Add response details such as short responses, formal or casual tone, greetings, sign-offs, and answers to negative, neutral, or setup-style questions.
- Set framing and content scope by choosing whether the clone draws only from your uploaded content or also from general knowledge the underlying model already has.
- Build the knowledge base by uploading files — transcripts, training material, Q&As, frameworks, or processes — which Coachvox turns into prompts and completions that inform the clone’s answers.
After setup, you can interact with the clone directly, rate its responses (for example, a five-star or three-star rating), and edit any answer you wouldn’t have given yourself.
How much time does building an AI clone take?
The presenter reports it took a couple of hours to upload and organize the initial information, plus a few more hours afterward to finalize everything. The amount of time needed depends on how much you want to fine-tune the clone and whether you or a team handle the setup — Coachvox also offers custom builds for authors and other partners who want the process handled for them.
What can an AI clone be used for?
According to the video, use cases include turning website visitors into leads, providing 24/7 customer support, answering community questions, and building familiarity with an audience. A clone can also be scoped narrowly — for example, a separate bot dedicated to helping readers interact with the contents of a specific book, distinct from a general customer-support clone.

How’s it going, everyone? Darby here with the AI. In this video I’m going to show you how to create a clone version of yourself to generate leads, interact with customers, or streamline your operations within your business using AI and a tool and a platform called Coachvox. I’ll demonstrate at the end of this video how I’m doing it. I want to give you a quick demo first of how simple it is once you get an AI clone of you trained on your content and your thinking and your frameworks and how you would approach helping anyone who’s interacting with you, whether it’s a customer considering your business or it’s team members within your business. You can use a clone, an app like this called Coachvox, to create a clone of you to increase your impact and the scale at which you can teach and share your ideas and help people get better results.
One example of how I’m using this clone right now is like “Hi, how are you,” just kicking off the conversation with the AI version of me for someone that’s considering ways they can get better at creating content with AI. And now we hear, “Hey there, I am an AI, so I don’t have feelings, but I’m here ready to assist you. What can I help you with today?” I say, “I want to write a book about training mini Aussies.” Okay, cool. So you start to interact with my AI and tell it what you want to create content about. In this example, someone wanted to write a book about training mini Aussies, and the conversation then goes back to my AI’s court and all the content I’ve trained my AI on for how it would respond in this sort of situation. It says something like: that sounds like a fantastic idea, mini Aussies are such intelligent and trainable dogs, your book could really make a difference for new owners — have you thought about what specific training methods you want to focus on, or are there unique challenges in training mini Aussies you’d like to address? Let’s dive deeper into the vision of your book.
That’s where the ball gets back to whoever is interacting with the AI to give it more information. What we’ve taught from the beginning, even back when Jasper was getting started, is the key importance of context and what you’re providing from your perspective as the human to make this a collaborative process with any AI. So the AI asks: have you thought about specific training methods or unique challenges to training Aussies you’d like to address? I respond: I have been training for 10 years to breed and train show dogs, specializing in mini Aussies. I know all the tricks, all the problems people have, and want to help people learn how to train their mini Aussies to become show dogs, from the breeder to the stage. (I’m making this up — I don’t actually have a mini Aussie right now, just love Aussies and grew up with a few.) So if I’m writing a book on this, let’s say I start to draw from some of that experience — 10 years breeding and training these dogs — and I want to write a book about it. What are you a thought leader in, what expertise do you have, do you already have a book you could use AI to help bounce ideas off of and help people get through the context of whatever you’re teaching?
The AI responds: that’s impressive, your decade-long experience in breeding and training mini Aussies for shows is a treasure trove of knowledge that many aspiring dog owners and breeders would find invaluable — it could be a guiding light to navigating their breed to the stage. Let’s start with identifying the key problems people encounter in that journey, and structure your book around those problems, providing practical solutions and tips. What do you think are the most common issues people face when training mini Aussies for show? I say, let’s just say bad behavior — too many treats, jumping up and down, too much energy. I’m giving it a little bit of information and tossing the ball back and forth, and the AI gives a response that helps me create a more refined outline — because that’s what you need if you’re going to write any book or blog, you need an outline of what you’re going to discuss.
This is an example of AI trained on loads of our content — and I say “trained” loosely, more like fed this information that it’s already working with inside GPT-4 and the other models it’s built on, plus the content we’re giving it for context and our own knowledge and expertise. We’ve tuned it in a way that it responds with certain approaches — “let’s tackle these one by one” — for bad behavior, for example, and you can see how the conversation keeps going back and forth from there. In a nutshell, that’s a quick demo of how you can chat with my AI and get help creating content around any level of subject matter expertise, at least to get started — and then you could take what comes out of that conversation into a tool like ChatGPT or Claude to develop it further.
Now, from the beginning I mentioned Coachvox is the platform I was using for this, so let’s jump over to another screen — Coachvox — and start diving into how simple it really was to get this content up, and walk through what’s making this AI version of me write these responses and make these types of decisions based on what we trained it on.
So here we are with Coachvox. It’s a platform that allows you to create an AI version of yourself, generate leads, and engage with your audience. If that sounds interesting to you, you’ve already seen my demo of interacting with mine. If you scroll down on Coachvox’s homepage, you can also interact with Jody AI, their founder — just enter your name, enter your email, agree to the terms and conditions, and you can interact similarly to how you saw me interacting with my bot, but trained on Jody’s knowledge and expertise. We’ve got an interview with her on our channel at Gen AI University that you can check out for a more in-depth discussion around AI and how Coachvox is building this product to support experts, founders, and thought leaders in cloning themselves — turning website visitors into leads, providing 24/7 support to clients, answering questions within your community, building familiarity with your audience, and a lot of other use cases.
Jody’s got a lot of great examples and demonstrations on the site, and right now pricing is around $99 a month, with different versions and models depending on what you’re training. If you have customer-facing Q&A or customer support, that could be one particular Coachvox bot; if you had one geared specifically around a book, that could be a complementary bot to help readers interact with the contents of that book — a separate AI clone of you. Keeping that in mind, Coachvox has a six-step process for creating yourself, and I’m going to jump into our back end and show you how we’ve built ours and how simple it really is for you to do it yourself as well. You’ll have a link somewhere around this video you can join through our affiliation — if you do, I’d love to help support you in building your own and getting up to speed.
So let’s dive into how we’ve built ours on the back end of Coachvox to get a clone of yourself out and working for you 24/7. Here we are in the Coachvox app, and I’ll walk through step by step how you can go through this process yourself. It took me a couple of hours to upload and get all my information sorted, and then a few more hours after that to finalize everything. You can upload different avatar images — this one I made inside ChatGPT with DALL-E 3 — give it a name, and give it colors that will design how it looks on your site. In the upper left of your screen you can go to your dashboard, which shows how “client ready” your Coachvox is. Coachvox also does custom builds for authors and different partners, and I imagine a lot of agencies or professionals already using it also offer this as a service, since it does take time to get set up. It depends on how fast you want it done — in a week, or over more time, and how much you want your team to spend organizing it versus doing it yourself. Depending on how much time you dedicate, it can take anywhere from a few hours to a few weeks of fine-tuning to get it looking really good. Coachvox gives you some general stats, and the platform is going to keep evolving with more analytics on users and what’s going on with your app.
That’s the dashboard — now here’s where the magic happens with any of the clones you’re making. You give it information: who you are, information about yourself, your approach to helping people (for us, that we deliver generative AI education), and your tone of voice — energetic, persuasive, enthusiastic, bold statements, metaphors, power words, parallel structures, vivid imagery. A lot of this tone-of-voice input shapes how your clone responds as people interact with it, and these are all things you fine-tune on the back end to get it just right. Fine-tuning your own AI clone can sound intimidating if it’s your first time with one of these tools, but honestly it’s a matter of moving a few sliders up and down and giving it personality and tone of voice — not very difficult, just takes time to put each piece in order, massage it, and test it. There’s no fancy code needed, just your own content and language. You adjust things like short responses versus formal, greetings, sign-offs, negative or neutral question handling, and setup statements, based on how your clone is responding. These are things we’re still improving as our clone interacts with more people and we get feedback, so you’ll want to build feedback loops as you go — getting responses from your audience, community, and customers on whether it’s being helpful and moving them to the next step.
There’s also framing, and a setting for how much of your content the clone should reference specifically — only your content versus collective knowledge, meaning how much it draws from the internet and what a model like GPT-4 was trained on versus only your own content. You choose that. Then there’s the knowledge base, which is really where your expertise lives within the platform to inform and train it and give better context to your knowledge and views. You upload files here — transcripts, training material, Q&As, frameworks, or processes that someone reading your book (or a member of your team) would want handy. Coachvox will suggest ways to format the content you upload to improve it, and their AI does a lot of the work of turning it into conversation through prompts and completions. As you learn more and add context to your training resources, that turns into more prompts and completions — you can see we’ve got a lot of these already from the content we uploaded, and you can label them and get more precise as your knowledge library grows. Depending on whether this is a complementary clone to help people through a book, you’d update your prompts, completions, and knowledge base when a new edition comes out or when you notice gaps on the FAQ side.
At that point you’re ready to start fine-tuning and interacting with it — you can say hi and interact just like you saw at the start of this video. You give it a star rating: five stars if it’s great, or if it’s a three-star response you can update how that response would be — “I would never say something like that, I would say something like this” — and simply edit it, or give it five stars if it’s good.
In a nutshell, that’s Coachvox and how you can clone yourself to generate leads, connect with customers, or train teammates — and do all the things it would be great to have if you had a clone of yourself, even just for creating content and coming up with content ideas based on your own knowledge base. There are many use cases across many different industries to quickly and easily upload your content and information, spend some time fine-tuning how your Coachvox clone is interacting, and then get that out to get feedback and deliver value for your customers, clients, and audience.

I don’t really view these as bots so much as I’d say the more specific you get, the more it becomes an AI version of you — it does its thing, and then there’s a natural next step where you’ll want to talk with one of our humans on top of it. So wherever that version of you can fit within your customers’ journey and your business operations, that might be the first place you could see this being utilized to help streamline and scale your business using AI, maybe in a different way than just going out and creating content.
I hope you can see a few different use cases for a tool like Coachvox, and feel free to explore other variations of tools out there for cloning yourself with AI — we’re also going to be exploring other platforms for voice cloning and video cloning in future videos, which have some really cool use cases on top of what we just demonstrated here. If you were looking for assistance actually building one of these clones of yourself out in Coachvox, reach out to us at hey@genaiuniversity.com and give us a little more info about what you’re looking to do in terms of cloning yourself, and we’ll see where we may be able to help accelerate that process for you.
Last but not least, go ahead and subscribe if you aren’t already here on YouTube, and give this video a like so we know you’re enjoying this content, and let us know what kind of content you’d like to see next when it comes to AI and growing your business — and maybe even yourself one step further. So until next time, keep calming AI on, we’ll see you on the other side.
