Claude MCP Tutorial: Gmail in 30 Seconds

Check this out. Claude just came out with an update that is a sign of where they are heading in terms of integrating your own tools and your workflow and letting Claude take actions with them. I’m going to show you a simple example here about how Claude can now connect with Gmail and it’s super easy to get set up if you have a Claude account.

As you can see, we’re here inside of our Claude workspace and you can see a few of these prompts down here — Drive, Calendar, Gmail. There’s also write, learn, and code and life stuff. If you click connect apps, then a screen will pop up. Depending on when you’re watching this, there may be more apps that you can connect. But you’ll see here I’ve connected my Google Drive, connected my Google calendar, I’ve connected my Gmail and my GitHub. And so a really quick way that you can get started using and seeing how Claude can interact with your content.

If you say from Gmail, you’ll see another series of prompts: tell me which emails I subscribe to usually go unread, identify and visualize my most brilliant moment from my documents, predict my next stress point by analyzing my calendar density patterns, and generate a personal brand statement based on how I communicate in email. I’m going to select that one for this example.

So when you select a prompt here, you’ll see Claude start a new chat with an enhanced prompt inside. And now, because I’ve already synced up my Gmail account, it’s going through and analyzing and assessing inside of my inbox and it’s going to put together a personal brand statement based on my existing email communication style, which once you have this type of content, you can use it as context for keeping your content and your communications on point.

You can see here communication style — direct, solutions-oriented — talking about who I am, CEO of Gen AI University, communication attributes, as you can see right here, brand voice elements. Um, signature communication moves — I often use Loom, and it picked that up. It picks up our tagline that we use inside of our email sign-offs, and it even created a brand tagline for me.

So again, one super quick example of how you can utilize Claude to analyze and assess content in your email. You can also start to interact with your inbox utilizing this Gmail integration. So I would encourage you, if you’re using Claude and if you haven’t connected these apps already, go ahead and try experimenting around with it and see how Claude can help you with integrating into your workflow and helping you not only assess and analyze your content, but also begin to take actions in terms of reading your inbox, understanding emails that are coming in, and helping you draft responses.

And then ultimately it’s going to end up helping you also send those responses too. Again, depending on when we’re watching this, it may not fully be at the point where it is able to send. But if you are interested in using Claude to actually take actions as well on your behalf to send and fully push out emails, send drafts, tags, and that sort of thing, then you’ll want to go a little bit deeper in terms of setting up your own MCP, model context protocols, so that you can give it more ability to take these types of actions.

And again, this type of stuff is going to get easier and easier for you to implement and take action on. But I think this is another step about how MCP and Claude and these different large language models are going to make it that much easier to connect and integrate with other AI tools and apps that you’re already using inside of your workflow.
